What is Microneedling and Nano-needling?

What is Microneedling?

Collagen induction therapy, also referred to as microneedling, nano-needling, or skin needling, is a cosmetic procedure that involves puncturing the skin multiple times using small, sterile needles. It is important to separate CIT from other contexts where microneedling devices are used on the skin.

What is the difference between Microneedling and Nano-needling?

When comparing the two, the key difference is the depth at which the needles can penetrate. Nano-needling involves puncturing only the superficial layer of the skin, known as the epidermis, while microneedling goes further into the deeper dermal layer.

FAQs

Is Microneedling/ Nano-needling painful?

For most people, skin needling is not typically painful. Although there might be some slight discomfort, applying numbing cream prior to the treatment can help keep any potential pain to a minimum.

Can your skin look worse after microneedling?

Microneedling is known to improve the appearance of acne scars and dark spots, while also minimising pores. It can also reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, which is the ultimate skin goal. In some cases, the use of at home Dermal Rollers can be used incorrectly and can have an adverse effect, causing wrinkles to appear worse.

Are there side effects Microneedling/ Nano-needling?

Microneedling may result in temporary side effects such as short-term swelling, redness, and skin flaking, which typically last for a few days. However, most individuals can resume wearing regular makeup within a day or two after the treatment.

Why does my skin look older after microneedling?

In the initial period after microneedling, lines may appear more prominent during the first few days following a treatment as a result of transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Rest assured that any rapidly developing wrinkles are not caused by a loss of structural integrity and are only temporary.
